Jesse Williams Delivers Passionate Speech at BET Awards

WNYC | Jun 28, 2016

Last night’s BET Awards crowned Beyoncé and Bryson Tiller the best female and male artists. But the show took a political turn when Grey’s Anatomy actor Jesse Williams delivered a passionate and politically charged speech about police brutality, racism, and oppression. The nearly 6-minute long speech, which Williams dedicated to ‘activists, civil rights attorneys, struggling parents and students’ came as he accepted BET’s humanitarian award…and audience members stood and applauded throughout.
