Norwegian cartoonist and journalist in exile Johan Gronlund Bull (Oslo, November 22, 1893 - Oslo Stowe, Vermont, September 12, 1945) recounts one of his trips to Norway.

Norway's Johan Bull worked for many years in the USA as a writer, journalist, illustrator and satirist, as well as a designer. He is remembered today for his drawings in the Norwegian exile press in Britain during the Second World War.

He was self-taught artist working in Norway until 1923, when he traveled to the United States. After a very few months he returned to Norway, but in 1925 he became resident in the United States until World War II. He was hired by The New Yorker, but also delivered work to Woman's Home Companion, Judge, Life, Colliers and McCall. In addition to the newspaper cartoons that commented on a current situation, he delivered illustrations for books.

When the war came, Bull began to speak of the Norwegian case through articles and drawings, first from the US and then from the UK. He enrolled at the Norwegian Information Office in London and contributed to Norsk Tidend, a small Norwegian language newspaper published in London. Despite his advanced age at the time, he underwent training as a war correspondent and military information officer and followed seafarers and pilots' lives at close range by attending various expeditions both by sea and by air, including two trips to occupied Norway with Catalina aircraft. He also sailed sailed several times with convoy across the Atlantic. In 1944 Johan Bull's health declined significantly, and he died the following year.

His books include _He Who Laughs... last_ (1941) and _War of the pen_ (1947).
