John Adams' 'Nixon In China" via The Met's Nightly Opera Stream
Wed., Sept. 2, 7:30PM via The Metropolitan Opera

The California composer John Adams reached a level of visibility in the mid-1980's that was unheard of for a modern opera composer. The reason was the subject matter of his opera, called Nixon In China, a brash, neon-colored piece of myth-making based on Richard Nixon’s historic visit to Beijing. By turns moving and hilarious, it changed the face of American opera. In this scene, Nixon steps off the plane to meet the Chinese dignitaries, but his mind is on the TV cameras following his every move. On Wed., Sept. 2, John Adams' opera Nixon In China is the Nightly Met Opera Stream opera (from a 2011 performance.)
