The Interview

Douglas Cooper had lined up John Newcombe for a conversation right after his singles match. The two talked about tennis in other countries. Then Cooper brought it back to Newcombe's youth as a natural athlete who took up several sports before emphasizing tennis.

He offered that his wife was ranked second in the German "under 21’s."  Will women ever gain the same renown? No, because "they have other things to do." I mentioned Chris Evert, and he acknowledged that she was a fine, young player.
