Judge Orders Names of ‘Inactive’ Voters to Be At Poll Sites

WNYC News | Jan 12, 2020

Thanks to a decision issued late Friday from District Court Judge Alison Nathan, the court is ordering the New York State Board of Elections to change how it handles the list of so-called inactive voters. Up to now, a person on the inactive voter list would not appear in any poll book during an election. Judge Nathan says that violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. She ordered the state to make the list of inactive voters' names available at poll sites. Those voters will then be able to cast an affidavit ballot with greater assurance that their vote will count since they'll know if they're in the right location.
