Kalia Vandever weaves beautifully layered musical tapestries from an unlikely source – her trombone. Using layers of her horn, electronics, and occasional wordless vocals, the Brooklyn-based musician and composer creates works that sound dramatically different from the music she plays with her jazz quartet, or the work she’s done with Harry Stiles, Lizzo, and many others. Vandever has just released a solo album – a rare thing for a trombonist – called We Fell In Turn. Kalia Vandever performs some of this music live, April 5 at National Sawdust in Brooklyn.
