Kelly Moran is a composer who has focused primarily on the piano, and how to utterly change what the piano sounds like. So she prepares the strings inside the instrument to make it more percussive, or plucks the strings to make it sound orchestral, or adds electronics to make it sound… you know, electronic. She also has chosen music for our 24/7 New Sounds music stream online. But mostly, she writes music, like this piece called “Through a lens of unvarying focus.”

Kelly Moran has just announced her new record, Ultraviolet, due out on Warp Records in November. Tonight at Roulette in Brooklyn, she'll perform the world premiere of music from her upcoming album.
