Kris Davis and Diatom Ribbons Band at Village Vanguard

Pianist and composer Kris Davis has made about a dozen or so records on her own or leading her own bands, and like many jazz musicians, also has a busy career playing in other people’s ensembles. So when she put together her Diatom Ribbons band, she was able to call upon a pretty impressive cast, one which incorporated turntable and electronic sounds. On the album called Diatom Ribbons the roster included guitarist Nels Cline of the rock band Wilco, along with Esperanza Spalding as featured vocalist, and Tony Malaby on sax.

The current version of her Diatom Ribbons band, which includes drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, Val Jeanty on turntable/electonics, bassist Trevor Dunn and guitarist Julian Lage, plays Tuesday through Sunday, May 24-29, at the Village Vanguard.
