Lara Downes – "Study In Blue" (Weekly Music Roundup)

George Gershwin’s Rhapsody In Blue is a landmark American work, and it turns 100 in February. Pianist Lara Downes asked sax player and composer Edmar Colon to update Gershwin’s portrait of the American melting pot in 1924 with the sounds of Afro-Caribbean music and other more recent styles. That project will come out in February 2024, but for the moment the two musicians have released this “Study in Blue,” a standalone work built on the famous slow theme from Gershwin’s original piece. "Study in Blue", based on Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, by pianist Lara Downes and sax player Edmar Colon is part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
