Political communication scholar Kathleen Hall Jamieson joins us to discuss her new book, Cyberwar: How Russian Hackers and Trolls Helped Elect a President What We Don't, Can't, and Do Know. Jamieson combs through the troll posts, polling data, analyses of how the press used the hacked content, and a synthesis of half a century of media effects research to argue that, although not certain, it is probable that the Russians helped elect the 45th president of the United States.
Actor Ellie Kemper joins us to discuss her autobiographical book of essays, My Squirrel Days. From growing up in suburban St. Louis to moving to Los Angeles, Kemper provides us with an intimate look at how she got to where she is today.
Leslie Day joins us to discuss her new book, Honeybee Hotel: The Waldorf Astoria's Rooftop Garden and the Heart of NYC. The tale begins over one hundred years ago, with the Astor family and the birth of the Waldorf Astoria. Fast-forward to the turn of the twenty-first century, and we meet executive chef David Garcelon, the man behind the idea of restoring the celebrated rooftop garden. His vision included six hives containing some 300,000 honeybees, which would provide a unique flavor for his restaurant. Soon the garden not only raised vegetables, herbs, and honey to be served in the hotel, but also provided healthy food to the homeless shelter across the street at St. Bartholomew’s Church.
