Lester Chang takes his seat in the NY Assembly, but perhaps not for long

New York state lawmakers will pass hundreds of bills at the Capitol in Albany over the next six months.

But Wednesday, the opening day of the 2023 legislative session, was more like the first day of school, with rookie lawmakers taking their seats for the first time — including Lester Chang, the Republican who continues to face questions about his Brooklyn residency.

Assembly Democrats are weighing whether to remove Chang from the chamber after a report suggested he didn't meet the minimum residency requirement. 

WNYC's Albany reporter Jon Campbell spoke to Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie about the looming issue, and Campbell joined All Things Considered host Sean Carlson to discuss.
