The Presidency that Never Was: James Garfield's Life and Assassination

President James Garfield had served in office for four months when he was shot and killed by Charles Guiteau in 1881. A new film by director Rob Rapley called “Murder of a President” tells the story of President Garfield's life and his struggle to survive for weeks after the shooting.

"Murder of a President" for American Experience premieres on February 2nd at 9 p.m. on PBS.
