Lin-Manuel Miranda Reportedly To Exit 'Hamilton'

WNYC News | Jun 2, 2016

If you thought a ticket to see creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda in "Hamilton" was hard to get, it's about to get even harder.

The Hollywood Reporter says Miranda is leaving the hit musical on July 9 to work on other projects.

Miranda wrote and stars in the Broadway show that has become a pop-culture juggernaut since debuting at New York's Public Theater in 2015. It recently racked up a record 16 Tony nominations and is already the recipient of a Grammy and a Pulitzer prize.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, contracts for Miranda and many other original cast members are set to expire. Cast members are also seeking a pay raise after striking a profit sharing deal earlier this year. The show is estimated to bring in about $500,000 in profit every week.

On Tuesday, Miranda confirmed he would star in the upcoming sequel to "Mary Poppins," alongside Emily Blunt.

Tickets to the show are a hot commodity with eager theater goers shelling out thousands for a single seat. "Hamilton" also attracts celebs and other high profile guest on a regular basis.
