Linda Perry: A Non-Blonde Turned Music Mogul And Reality TV Star

Soundcheck | Jul 3, 2014

Linda Perry is still best known to a general audience as the striking lead singer for 4 Non Blondes, who gave us the indelible 1992 earworm, 'What's Up.'

She remains a committed and idiosyncratic singer and songwriter, but she has also had notable success on the other side of the studio glass, writing songs and producing records for mainstream marquee names like Pink, Gwen Stefani, and Christina Aguilera, among others.

Her newest venture is 'Make Or Break: The Linda Perry Project,' a reality show for VH1 whose central conceit is Perry's canny aptitude for identifying and enhancing the unique musical traits of diverse performers.

Linda Perry joins John Schaefer in the studio to talk about her career, about the role that producers should play in making great music, her new "Make Or Break" moment...and about her fondness for Karen Carpenter.
