Listen: The Crossing Performs David Lang's 'Little Match Girl Passion'
On Dec. 23, 2012, we presented a live webcast of the renowned choral ensemble The Crossing from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Medieval Sculpture Hall. The centerpiece of the program was David Lang's Pulitzer Prize-winning Little Match Girl Passion, based on the Hans Christian Anderson tale of hardship and transcendence as a young match-stick girl strives to keep warm on a frigid New Year's Eve.
Also featured on this holiday-themed concert were Eriks Esenvalds's Stars and O Salutaris, Bo Holten's First Snow, James Primosch's Spiraling Ecstatically, Jonathan Dove's Three Kings and Andrew Gant's What Child is This.
Led by conductor Donald Nally and formed in 2006, the Philadelphia-based chamber choir The Crossing have won two recent ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming and is one of the few professional choirs dedicated exclusively to the promotion of new music.
