Swipe Back at Identity Theft This Black Friday

The Brian Lehrer Show | Nov 24, 2015

Adam Levin, former director of the NJ division of consumer affairs, chairman and founder of Identity Theft 911, chairman and co-founder of Credit.com and the author of Swiped: How to Protect Yourself in a World Full of Scammers, Phishers, and Identity Thieves (PublicAffairs, 2015), offers advice for avoiding identity theft as holiday shopping gets serious.

He says to remember the 3 M's:

  • Minimize your exposure: don't carry your Social Security card out of your home; don't carry all of your credit/debit cards on you; covet your personal information.
  • Monitor your accounts: daily, if possible.
  • Manage the damage: contact your insurance agent or bank to see if they offer liability coverage.

→ Event: Adam Levin will be speaking at Barnes and Noble in Tribeca at 6:00pm on December 1st. Click here for more details.
