Marking the 25th Anniversary of the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing
The 25th anniversary of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing was Monday, and dozens attended a ceremony to commemorate the lives of the six who died. Many former Port Authority employees come every year, and consider it a kind of family reunion.
"We've been together with the families for 25 years now, so we've watched their teenager children grow into middle age adults with their own children," said Robert Dichiara, 72, the former deputy director of the World Trade Center at the Port Authority.Â
Dichiara was in charge of getting the building back in service after the attacks. Four of his employees died in the bombing, and he still chokes up while talking about them.Â
"After 9/11 I was asked about the connection. I said, 'Put it like this, if you analyzed the blood of a World Trade Center Port Authority person, and you looked at it under a microscope, you'd see little Twin Towers there,'" he said, clutching a yellow flower. "It was a special place for all of us. It's still going, after it's gone."
