Despite what a certain TV series might’ve told you, orange is not the new black. At least, not according to Marnie Stern. She titled one of her songs “Female Guitar Players Are The New Black,” a sidelong look at the persistent surprise people seem to feel when they see a woman absolutely shredding on the instrument. After her widely acclaimed 2013 album The Chronicles of Marnia – another cheeky title – Stern didn’t record again for ten years, making last year’s album The Comeback Kid an appropriately titled record.  It included this song, “Plain Speak.” Marnie Stern plays on Thursday, Nov. 21 at TV Eye in Ridgewood, Queens.
