Matthew Broderick Plays a Grieving Widower in 'Shining City'

Matthew Broderick and Billy Carter talk about “Shining City,” along with director Ciaran O’Reilly, now at the Irish Repertory Theatre. Set in Dublin, the play explores themes of loneliness and alienation in a city. The recently widowed John (Broderick) is seeking help from Ian, a counselor (Carter). John is still grieving, and begins to see his wife’s ghost in their home.
