Family Turmoil in the Film "May in Summer"

The Leonard Lopate Show | Aug 21, 2014

Cherien Dabis tells us about writing, directing, and acting in the film "May in Summer." Dabis stars as May Brennan, a writer living in New York who returns to her hometown in Jordan for her wedding.  It's not a happy homecoming though, as her born-again Christian mother disapproves that May’s fiancé is a Muslim, and May's estranged father tries to reconnect. The film is a personal and often humorous look at family dynamics and the conflicts between old-world traditions and modern values in the Middle East. "May in Summer" opens at Landmark Sunshine Cinema August 22.
