Meredith Monk at BAM, March 14-18

Vocalist, composer, and multimedia artist Meredith Monk is unveiling a new work this week called "Cellular Songs." It features just the women’s voices from her ensemble, along with movement and a site-specific video installation. The music is based on the activity of cells, like dividing, reproducing, and mutating; and follows on from several recent projects by Monk that question how we relate to nature and to each other. As usual, she asks those questions without words, using the voices as pure instruments.

Meredith Monk premieres this new multimedia work at BAM tonight through Sunday.
