The Met, the MoMA, and the Art of Maintaining Prestige

Vanity Fair special correspondent Bob Colacello discusses the competition between New York’s Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art for artworks, prestige, and young, moneyed trustees. Colacello also details the massive expansions both museums are planning, which for MoMA includes a highly controversial Diller Scofidio + Renfro design that proposed opening the entire first floor of the museum free of charge, including the garden.
