The Met Museum Offers “The Art of Music”

WNYC News | May 25, 2018

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has had an impressive collection of musical instruments for well over a century, but for much of that time it was one of the museum's hidden treasures. No longer.

A complete redesign of the music gallery has put instruments from around the world in dialogue with each other by drawing connections between cultures and over centuries. And the new exhibit announces itself with a visually arresting "fanfare" of musical instruments.

Although a further gallery with 300 additional instruments won’t open until early next year, the current exhibition, called “The Art of Music,” is already provocative and surprising enough to warrant a visit.
