M.I.A. – The One (Weekly Music Roundup)

British singer, rapper, and activist M.I.A. made her reputation in the aughts with songs like “Galang” that reflected her Tamil identity; and occasional song titles referenced her Hindu upbringing. So her announcement last week that she is now a born-again Christian threatens to overshadow the release of her new single, “The One.” Whatever’s going on in her off-stage life, M.I.A. is still making her own punky, sharp-tongued, yet melodic blend of hip hop and pop. “The One” finds her referring to her own taste-making career and concluding “Tryna find the one/What you seeking ain’t hiding/Tryna find the one/It’s me you keep finding.” The song “The One” by M.I.A. is part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
