Balancing Screen Time For Your Kids, Nelson Mandela's Voice From Behind Bars, Please Explain: Nollywood

Midday on WNYC | Jul 19, 2018

Angela C. Santomero and Anya Kamenetz talk about how much and what kind of programming parents should let their kids watch, in addition to answering listener's questions. Sahm Venter and Zamaswazi Dlamini-Mandela discuss The Prison Letters of Nelson Mandela. During Mandela's 10,052 days of incarceration, the future leader of South Africa wrote a multitude of letters to unyielding prison authorities, fellow activists, government officials, and, most memorably, to his courageous wife, Winnie, and his five children. Many of the letters that are included have never been published and provide insight into how Mandela maintained his inner spirits while living in almost complete isolation. Please Explain: Nollywood with Emily Witt. Nollywood began in Nigeria in the 1990s and has grown into one of the most recognized cultural centers of the world, producing more movies every year than Hollywood.

This episode is guest hosted by Matt Katz.
