Mostly Mozart (Fringe) Festival - #4399, Rock me Amadeus, Part 4
As part of our week-long Mostly Mozart fringe festival to augment Mostly Mozart on WQXR, listen to Part 4 of the multi-part series “Rock Me Amadeus.”
Listen to an exclusive performance of an early work by Mozart on toy piano by New York-based composer, pianist, and interdisciplinary artist, Sugar Vendil, who is a proud second generation Filipinx American and the founder of The Nouveau Classical Project. She also premieres a brand-new work of her own,” Een o thi se” for toy piano and electronics, as recorded live in Queensbridge Park.
There’s music by the Norwegian composer Rolf Wallin, his “Das war schön!” (That was nice!) whose title refers to Mozart’s reaction to his caged bird being able to sing the main theme of the final movement of his 17th piano concerto, although with two small mistakes. Then, hear more music based on Mozart – the “catalogue aria” from Don Giovanni by Michael Nyman. There’s also an arrangement of the same aria by Italian musician, researcher, and radio host Nando Citarella.
Plus, listen to a meeting of Mozart and Cuban mambo by French horn player Sarah Willis from her 2020 record, Mozart y Mambo. It’s her "Rondo alla Mambo," inspired by the Concerto No. 3 K. 447. And more.
