In what is becoming a holiday tradition – the Metropolitan Opera is once again this season presenting its family-friendly, abridged version of Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. It’s a musical fairy tale in a production designed by Julie Taymor that features large-scale puppets and which has excited younger opera-goers for almost 20 years now. The Met’s version is sung in English, although frankly, when the Queen of the Night sings her famous aria, her voice is so high in the stratosphere that the words hardly matter. The English-language, family version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute has 5 more performances, Dec. 26 through January 6.Â
