Flutist, vocalist and composer Nathalie Joachim was a member of the Grammy-winning contemporary music group Eighth Blackbird. But last year, she embarked on a solo project exploring her family’s roots in Haiti. The album, Fanm D’Ayiti, or “Women of Haiti,” was a collection of songs, with recorded voices, live singing, string quartet and electronics; And it was nominated for a Grammy. In this Suite pou Dantan, a suite for the Haitian town where Nathalie Joachim’s family is from, she incorporated her own recording of the local children’s choir.
