A New Chapter in Obama's Fickle FOIA Record
When Obama came into office in 2009, his very first day as President included signing a Presidential Memorandum on the Freedom of Information Act, leading many to believe that he would make good on his promise to usher in a new era of government transparency. Over the years, however, Obama's administration has been notoriously stingy when it comes to fulfilling FOIA requests from journalists. Now, just days away from the Freedom of Information Act's 50th Anniversary, President Obama has signed into law the FOIA Improvement Act, which will grant expanded access to federal documents and force government agencies to be more transparent. Bob speaks to Vice News reporter and FOIA advocate Jason Leopold, who suggests that this new law could make the federal government the most transparent it has ever been.
