A New Exhibit Makes Art Out of the New York City Census

WNYC News | Nov 26, 2019

Next year is a big one for the U.S. It's not only the presidential election -- it's also our next national census. The Museum of the City of New York’s new exhibit “Who We Are: Visualizing NYC By The Numbers” looks at why the census matters and what it means for New York City.

Through art, data visualization and additional historic context, “Who We Are” suggests we can draw unexpected insights about New Yorkers from the census.

“All these data points come from real people with real stories, with complex stories,” said “Who We Are” guest curator Kubi Ackerman. “This is a fundamentally human story.”

“Who We Are: Visualizing NYC By The Numbers” is on display at the Museum of the City of New York through September 2020.
