NY Attorney General Challenges Takeover of Indian Point

WNYC News | Feb 12, 2020

State officials are challenging the application of Holtec International to take over and "decommission" Indian Point -- a process that's expected to take at least 15 years after the plant shuts down next April. Environmentalists and some state officials have doubts about the Camden-based company's ability to do the job safely, based on its track record. Now, the Attorney General is weighing in. In an 87 page brief, the AG casts doubt on Holtec's financial viability and says the company has no plans to deal with certain kinds of nuclear contamination. Holtec says it's worked with radioactive waste for decades -- and that federal regulators have already given the company a green light to take on similar projects in other states.
