NY Senate Leader, Son Plead Not Guilty in Corruption Case

WNYC News | Jun 1, 2015

The former leader of the New York Senate and his son have pleaded not guilty on federal corruption charges.

The indictment filed last week levels conspiracy and extortion charges against 67-year-old Dean Skelos, a Republican from Long Island, and his 32-year-old son, Adam. They were arraigned Monday in Manhattan.

Among the charges, federal officials say a medical malpractice insurer allegedly provided Adam Skelos with a no-show job while the company lobbied his father on legislative matters.

Authorities then allege $300,000 was illegally steered to the younger Skelos.

Dean Skelos says he plans to fight the charges and that he and his son will be ultimately be vindicated.
