NYC Mayor: School's Out Until September. NY Gov: Not So Fast.

WNYC News | Apr 11, 2020

Are they or aren't they closed for the rest of the year? That's the question many New Yorkers have about the public school system.

On Saturday morning, Mayor de Blasio said "I announce today that the NYC public schools will remain closed for the remainder of this school year."

To which Governor Cuomo responded: "That's his opinion. But he didn't close them, and he can't open them."

The governor says HE will make the decision about whether to reopen schools ... on a regional basis. As of now, all New York schools are closed through April 29th, through an executive order from Cuomo. He hasn’t said if that order will be extended.

As of Saturday, 180,458 people in New York have tested positive for COVID-19.
