NYC Vaccine Mandate For Educators Leads To Surge In Inocculations
The COVID vaccine mandate for all New York City public school staff is now in effect. Mayor de Blasio says 95 percent of all public school staff have now had at least one dose of the vaccine. That includes tens of thousands of employees who got the shot in recent weeks. He says the spike shows that mandates work. Still, some principals scrambled to cover vacancies after unvaccinated staff were barred from buildings. Most say they were able to make it work. But parents say some students still adjusting to school had to switch teachers. Some with dedicated paraprofessionals went without them, and some special education students were assigned new teachers without appropriate training. The city has also dispatched substitutes and central office staff to fill gaps.
