NYC's New Public Advocate
Jumaane Williams, recently-elected NYC public advocate and former NYC council member for the 45th District, talks about his new role as NYC public advocate and his plans for the office.
"I was just happy because I was always told I was too much of an activist and I had to choose… I was always told I had to change my message… and it turns out people were receptive to it," says @JumaaneWilliams on his wide-margin victory for Public Advocate.

"I just wanted folks to know, whatever you’re going through, other people are going through it as well. Having these discussions in general is helpful, having it with a professional is even better," says @JumaaneWilliams on his emotional victory speech.

"We’re in a time where toxic masculinity is being exposed for what it is and at a time where we have a unique opportunity to change that dynamic. Some of that is talking about what masculinity is and what it isn’t. It’s a strength to reach out for help," says @JumaaneWilliams.

"Many of the issues that we have came before Trump… often times with Democrats in charge. We have to be able to hold them accountable as well. My job now is to make sure now that’s discussed and we get some results from it," says @JumaaneWilliams of working with Mayor de Blasio.

"Things like housing in particular, we’ve failed miserably. And we failed because of things that were put forth by this administration and a counsel that didn’t have the political will to push back." 2/2 https://t.co/naWgVTVjIk

"The question is ‘what did you have the power to do and not do?’ and we fail if you ask the question that way. They often say this is the best inclusionary housing in the country, which I think is an indictment of how bad the issue is," says @JumaaneWilliams. pic.twitter.com/0qvAW0tw51
