NYPD Officer on Trial for Akai Gurley's Death

The Brian Lehrer Show | Feb 10, 2016

It's up to the jury after closing arguments in the trial of NYPD officer Peter Liang for the shooting death of Akai Gurley in the stairwell of NYCHA's Pink Houses in Brooklyn in 2014.

WNYC reporter Robert Lewis recaps what we know so far: Officer Liang entered the stairwell with his gun drawn, fired, and remained in the hallway with his partner arguing about who should call it in. When he finally went down the stairs, he saw Gurley and did not perform CPR.

Liang, who faces second degree manslaughter among other charges, faces a maximum of 15 years.
