With songs about Brita water filters and mediocre sex and favorite pyjamas, Okay Kaya, aka Kaya Wilkins, grew up in Norway, and is based here in New York. Her albums are full of strange, demented bedroom pop, with touches of R&B balladry and indie rock navel-gazing. Her latest release, 2022's SAP, is "a concept album about consciousness in which Okay Kaya focuses her trademark combination of abstraction and wit on what happens to her mind unaccompanied, on her tendency to feel less like a human and more like the sticky secretion of a tree," (Northern Transmissions). Okay Kaya plays in the round at Elsewhere on Tuesday night, May 9, – an early and a late show. Both shows are sold out, as of this writing, but sometimes a music fan can get lucky if you join the waiting list.
