The Nigerian-American artist Okwui Okpokwasili is a writer, a choreographer, and a musician. Her works have earned her several Bessie awards as well as a Macarthur Fellowship – the so-called “Genius Award,” though the Macarthur Foundation hates when we say that. Still, if the shoe fits… Okpokwasili and her longtime collaborator Peter Born are presenting a new work as part of BAM’s Next Wave Festival, called Adaku, Part 1: The Road Opens, which runs Nov. 28-Dec. 2.
