The Brooklyn singer and songwriter Nicole Rodriguez records as Pearla. She released an EP back in 2019 called Quilting and Other Activities, a title that somehow fit with her off-kilter sense of folk-pop. Last year she released her full-length debut, and it too has a memorable, if slightly longer title. It’s called Oh Glistening Onion, the Nighttime Is Coming. It’s an album of strange but lovely songs full of surreal imagery, people trying to figure things out, and unexpected animals. Pearla plays on Aug. 7 at Baby’s All Right.Â
