POTUS to Deliver Rutgers Commencement

WNYC News | Apr 14, 2016

If it seems like the New York City region is the center of the political universe right now, add another event to the calendar.

Rutgers University announced Thursday that President Barack Obama will deliver this year's commencement address on May 15 at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway.

"We are delighted that President Obama has chosen to address our graduates at this year's historic commencement," said Rutgers President Robert Barchi in a statement. The year is the university's 250th commencement ceremony, and 12,000 graduates are expected to receive degrees.

Earlier this month, the school had announced journalist Bill Moyers would be the speaker.

Gov. Christie, speaking Thursday morning at an unrelated event, called it a "great honor for the state."
