Prasanna at the Rubin Museum
Tickets: $24-$35. Show at 7 pm.

The electric guitar is associated with Western music in general, rock in particular. But it’s actually capable of much more. For example, the musician known as Prasanna has adapted the electric guitar to the scales and rhythms of Carnatic music – the classical music of South India. Prasanna has worked with the American jazz pianist Vijay Iyer, and has written his own works; he holds the distinction of being one of three Indians who have scored music for Oscar-winning films, besides Ravi Shankar and A.R. Rahman.

Indian guitar master Prasanna brings Carnatic music filled with modern electric guitar soundscapes exploring themes of peace, love, and prayer to the Rubin Museum, Friday, August 24.
