President Nixon Addresses the Invasion in Cambodia

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

President Richard Nixon addresses a military campaign taking place in Cambodia (known as the Cambodian Campaign) and promises that the operation should conclude by June 30th, with all troops withdrawn from the area. He asserts that the military achieved all the key military objectives so far, that troops are still being withdrawn based on his promised timetable and that the Vietnamization program is succeeding. He is, "determined to end the war in a way that will promote peace rather than conflict throughout the world" and calls for support from those that criticize these policies.

This recording, of a televised address, begins with a brief introduction from WNYC announcer Larry Orflay. Then a United Press International reporter begins to speak but stops abruptly. After a few breaks in the audio, the feed of Nixon comes in, mid-sentence.
