Listen to unusual collaborations by Japanese vibraphonist Masayoshi Fujita with vocalist Hatis Noit, Paolo Angeli and his prepared Sardinian guitar with Omar Bandinu of Tenores di Bitti, Tibetan singer Yungchen Lhamo with Russian pianist Anton Batagov, and more.
Hear the operatic voice of Japanese-born, London-based avant-garde vocalist Hatis Noit, together with vibraphonist/percussionist Masayoshi Fujita’s layered spacious phrases of marimba (an instrument change for Fujita), from his 2021 record, Bird Ambience. Then, there’s the modified cello-guitar-kalimba of Paolo Angeli’s prepared Sardinian guitar, in collaboration with Omar Bandinu, bass of Tenores di Bitti, in what sounds like throat singing paired with bowed and electrified cello. Also, Rome’s Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio takes on a Roma song that crossed continents from the Indian province of Rajasthan, and was also recorded by the band Musafir, “Ninderli.”
Listen to music that comes from the historic Jewish Ghettos of the world by trumpeter/composer Frank London, in a song from the Marrakesh Mellah, “Nirdi Natan Reiho,” and which features Lebanese-American tenor Karim Sulayman, and Ukrainian-born, German-based Cantor Svetlana ‘Sveta’ Kundish. Also, there;’s collaborative music by Tibetan devotional singer Yungchen Lhamo and Russian pianist and composer Anton Batagov, from their record Tayatha, which means “it is like this” in Sanskrit.
