Public Comment Time for New Jersey's $16 Billion Dollar Flood Plan

WNYC News | Sep 26, 2021

Over the summer, the Army Corps of Engineers unveiled a massive $16 billion flood mitigation proposal for New Jersey's back bays. The "tentatively selected plan," as they call it, seeks to find solutions to major flooding that occurred in the barrier island region of the state, especially during Hurricane Sandy. The project is now in the middle of a public comment period that runs through mid October.

Jon Hurdle with New Jersey Spotlight News join's WNYC's David Furst for an update. Jon says the proposal calls for elevating thousands of homes and storm surge gates that could close off inlets between barrier islands.
