Ravi Coltrane, with Juke Joint Jelis feat. Brianna Thomas at DROM
Wed., Aug. 18. Doors at 6:30PM EDT. $40-$100.

Sax player and composer Ravi Coltrane has led his own bands and collaborated with some of the leading figures in jazz over the past three decades. This piece, a collaboration with the Prism Sax Quartet and fellow reed player Chris Potter, is his latest recorded effort. It’s called "Tones For M." The “M” in the title is Ravi Coltrane’s aunt, Mary Alexander – the same person that his father, John Coltrane, wrote the piece “Cousin Mary” for half a century earlier.  Ravi Coltrane plays on Wed. night as part of the NYC Summer Jazz Series at DROM on Avenue A. Jazz singer Brianna Thomas will be performing earlier in the evening as well.
