Red Baraat at Brooklyn Bowl
May 8, 8PM. $35.65

Bhangra is the name of a Punjabi folk dance, but it has also become a favorite groove you might hear in the clubs of Brooklyn. That’s at least in part because of Red Baraat, the Brooklyn-based group that has brought their high-energy, horn-heavy sound to New Yorkers for a decade and a half. Their new album is called Bhangra Rangeela, and it includes some new versions of old favorites from the band, with guests like Stewart Copeland of The Police. The album’s title track, though, actually incorporates a far older song from the Pakistani Sufi tradition. With guest rapper SMK and singers the Bakshi Brothers, it’s still a rockin’ good time. Red Baraat plays May 8 at Brooklyn Bowl.
