For the second time this century, our president-elect won the electoral vote without getting the most votes nationwide. This has prompted fresh debate about the electoral college system, which most Americans perceive as undemocratic. Rob Richie, executive director of FairVote and co-author of Every Vote Equal, advocates for a plan to change electoral college rules in states so that the candidate who wins the popular vote wins the presidency. He talks with Brooke about how this effort, called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, would make every state -- not just swing states -- relevant in general elections, and in turn transform how campaigns are run and how elections are covered.
