Resources for Contacting, and Aiding, Those in Puerto Rico
WNYC News | Sep 27, 2017
The scope of Hurricane Maria's devastation in Puerto Rico is so broad, and the relief effort so concentrated in San Juan, that many people from outside the capital say they've received little to no help. And power outages and spotty cell service have made communicating with people on the island a serious challenge.
To reach people in Puerto Rico, try these services:
- Â Zello, a radio-style walkie-talkie app
- AT&TÂ will help connect you to their customers
- Claro is reportedly providing service
- Governor Christie has set up a toll-free hotline for help reaching relatives: 833-NJ-HELPS. That's 833-654-3577.
To send aid and supplies:
- New York City is collecting donations at various sites around the city.
- There's minimal mail service into San Juan
Mail is going to start working in Puerto Rico in a really limited way...https://t.co/E960utVKZx
