Singer, fiddler, and banjo player Rhiannon Giddens won a Grammy with the Carolina Chocolate Drops, a group that resurrected early 20^th century black string band music. She’s gone on to collaborate with musicians across the spectrum, from folk artists like Dirk Powell to classical musicians like pianist Lara Downes – both of whom she’s performing with this week alone. Last year, Giddens recorded with the Kronos Quartet for an album of folk songs, on which her version of "Factory Girl" appears. 

Tonight Rhiannon Giddens plays with pianist Lara Downes at National Sawdust in a Leonard Bernstein centennial tribute of American music - past and present. This weekend, Feb. 9-11, she plays with Appalachian musician Dirk Powell at the Irish Arts Center for three sold-out concerts.
