Ron Carter is the most-recorded jazz bassist ever, with appearances on over 2,200 albums. He’s a multiple Grammy winner, and he’s played with everyone from Miles Davis to the hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest. Carter turned 85 last week, and if anyone has earned the right to kick back and take a break, it’s Ron Carter. So what is he doing? He’s marking his birthday with a big show at Carnegie Hall. The Ron Carter Octet will play. The Ron Carter Foursight Quartet will play. And his Golden Striker Trio will play too. At least he’ll get a little break when host Lester Holt is addressing the crowd. The 85th Birthday Concert called For The Love Of Ron Carter, hosted by newsman Lester Holt, takes place Tuesday, May 10 at Carnegie Hall.
